Following the release of A' level Results today Kirsty Williams AM, Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Education, has congratulated pupils and Teachers on their success dispute a tough year for education in Wales.

Pass rates across Wales have risen slightly on last year along with higher numbers of A' level pupils.

Kirsty Williams said:"Pupils and Teachers across Wales have done fantastically to get such good results despite the financial pressures that we have seen in Welsh schools. The WAG has been let off the hook for its F-grade performance in education policy and funding by the top performance in class rooms across Wales.

"The WAG must address the lower number of Welsh pupils getting A grades compared to England by reducing the funding gap and making education a funding priority both for the sake of our students and for our economy.

"The results show that there remains a need for WAG to address the gap between boys and girls and its enquiry must be completed and acted upon with haste.

"It is good news that the numbers of pupils taking science subjects has risen slightly but more needs to be done to ensure that we have more pupils taking these subjects along with maths and languages which are all essential to personal and economic development. WAG must invest fully in Education for the future of Wales and its citizens."
